Wheelings & Dealings: SAP Plans to Acquire SeeWhy

Last year it was reported that the 41 year old maker of financial and supply-chain software, SAP AG, has been slow to shift to cloud computing and has struggled for years to catch up to U.S. competitors. If you have been following along, it seems that SAP is determined to change that scenario as its goal is to move its considerable number of corporate clients to cloud-based subscription services.

Towards that end, just in the past couple of years SAP spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $12 billion. A lot of this money was spent on acquisitions in Silicon Valley. It has picked up companies such as procurement software firm Ariba for $4.3 billion and cloud software maker SuccessFactors for $3.3 billion. Earlier this year in March, SAP announced the acquisition of Fieldglass and a partnership with Adobe.
